Croda Chemicals, Bromborough - February 2016

We visited Croda Chemicals over in Bromborough back in December 2015, a sprawling site of an industrial chemical plant, administration blocks and workshops, an excellent mooch was had by all.

February 2016 and Blober fancied a trip up into England for a look see, we joined Blober for some Mersey derp, being myself, Tbolt and Blacksnake.

Arriving on site most of the buildings had been demolished and we found contractors undertaking "extra curricular activities" for a bit of extra pocket money. It's amazing how health and safety goes out the window when contractors think no one is watching.

Still rather good, although somewhat smaller 7/10 and disappearing very fast.

Bridon Wire Works, Ambergate - February 2016

Visited with Judderman and Zer01 on a mini tour of Derbyshire.

IMGP6713_DxO

Opening in 1876, the factory closed in 1996. The Johnson family ran this factory manufacturing telegraph wires, fencing and suspension cables for sale on the global market. In the second world war Bridon manufactured telegraph cables laid underneath the English Channel as part of the UK war effort.

2016 and we have a vast empty building where shit graffiti artists come practice in the hope of some day becoming something near the standard of the Sheffield artists - gems do stand out, others are shockingly bad.

I did for some reason had high hopes for this one and it was on my "to do" list for at least the last 12 months but sadly 2/10 from me being this its just a giant empty building - although probably ideal for wire wool spinning at night.

Limestone Farm. Belper - February 2016

Welcome to a field in Derbyshire in England in February, its cold and wet and full of derp.....

So with Team Weasel many men down for this Derbyshire trip we trudged muddy fields trying to avoid (not very) deep mud, cow pats and some overly friendly cows.

Visited with the Hobbit like creature only known as Zer081 and Judderman sporting his ill chosen shoes for Cross Country, I find it very therapeutic to see man in mature years burning off extra calories purely due to the wrong shoes and the need to avoid puddles, cow poo and well, the general day to day hazards of the open countryside.

With no history on the place, the old newspapers sat around the place dated back to 1977 and the owners where long gone, except for the bovine beasts that roam its muddy paddocks as if on guard.

A very compact building with strong winter sun streaming thru the windows sadly result in my pictures not really do this little hidden gem justice.

Not worth a trip for this location in isolation, however if your in the area its a resounding 7/10 as we continue our search for this years epic without any success what so ever.

Oakhurst House, Ambergate - February 2016

Visited with Judderman and ZerO81 as part of a last minute potter around the Belper area of Derbyshire.

Located in Shining Cliff Woods, above the village of Ambergate in Derbyshire sits Oakhurst House hanging on for dear life, this is as one splendid chap once said "chocolate box derp".

IMGP6664_DxO

Originally built in 1848 industrialist Francis Hurt, the buildings became neglected by the 1970s and later abandoned,  finally falling derelict and left to battle it out with the elements and vandals.

People say its haunted, but they would, they sell haunted ghost walks to the place. The only thing that would go bump in the night here would be the roof tiles bouncing off your head.

 IMGP6641_DxO

This rather grand looking mock Tudor building with gothic overtones looks to have nothing to offer, but should you stupidly brave its crumbling exterior it does have a few little hidden charms to offer.

If your in the area then Oakhurst House gets a surprising 7/10 otherwise you can only really give it a a nudge over 4/10.

Derpington.

Lielie Kapi, Riga - February 2016

There are vampires in the park Mawgojzeta, but I only hear the sound of dancing bears.....

Visited with Tbolt, whom thankfully pounded the winter streets with me to this long closed cemetery in Riga.

Having previously visited Latvia back in October the slight problem we had found with Latvia was that a lot of places look derelict, then you spot a light on or the glow of a television - this is not say that Latvia is a dump, it just has a certain style that is very photogenic.

IMGP5913_DxO

We found ourselves in Riga during a break in its usual brutal winter weather and we wandered across the city to this old cemetery.

Lielie Kapi or Central Cemetery was established in in 1773, the Soviet authorities removed many of the headstones and destroyed a great number of the graves. The cemetery finally officially closed in 1957 and this now park has a number of mausoleums that have fallen into disrepair. Whilst very photogenic you wouldn't want to hang around after dark.

A number of the tombs are boarded up, as if to keep its occupants from escaping....

Others almost invite investigation, as if luring you in.
