Highways Department, Johnstown, Carmarthen - June 2017

We spotted this place on the side of a busy main road in Wales. After a frustrating day we popped our heads in.

Looked like an old school which had been later used by the Highways Department for offices. Not much to say about the place to be honest. It had potential from the road side but ultimately crap, thrashed to within an inch of its life.

Visited by Snapt and Tbolt between rain showers.

Lights on, no one at home

Given that Wales is obviously a country of milk and honey we did find it a little strange that the lights where left on despite the building being "alfresco" and looking empty for years.

Posted to save you the time and effort 2/10

Dyson Ceramics, Stannington - July 2016

Having previous popped my nose in at this place a few years ago and failed to make any inroads at photographing this abandoned and derelict factory it was most welcome visit with Tbolt.

Dyson Ceramics closed this factory back in 2005, some areas are demolished but is does still have some little bits to see with a smattering of Sheffield graffiti.

The factory in its countryside setting sits rotting in development hell, developers want to build 88 house, but given the green belt location on the edge of the Peak District, this is proving a little controversial.

A tidy office is a happy office

I'm going to give this place a jolly 6/10 as we continue on our quest for that illusive epic.

Mother Riley's Cottage, Lancashire - June 2016

One rather damp summer evening in Lancashire, after info from Luigidawn,  we visited this abandoned cottage with its jungle of a garden. We being myself, Tbolt and Zer081.

The dark, cramped cottage was not the best of places to work in and to be honest, not a great deal to see at the place - however it had come to the point that given the number of fails we had suffered of late that anything was better than nothing.

Sadly not my cup of tea being a little bland, cramped and empty, but still very welcome after a relatively dull few months of repeat explores. Still looking for the epic, I give this a 3/10.

Iranian Consulate, Bowdon, Cheshire - April 2016

It had been on my list of places to visit for years. Sadly we visited a few years to late too late.

Urban Spaceman and myself  pottered into the rather posh village of Bowdon and found a building simply hanging on for dear life. The only reason it still stands is the very fact as it is classed as Iranian soil, saying that all the outbuildings are now demolished and only the main building remains - just.

Derp, 2/10 - a real blot on the landscape on Millionaire Row.

Rylands Mill, Wigan - April 2016

I was rather taken aback at the entry to this place, the gates wide open was a little different. However the mill itself overlooks the Mesnes Park in Wigan and has nothing to stop even the smallest kids from wandering in from the park a killing themselves - NOTHING, it even has steps up from the park into the place.

And they did, well wander in not kill themselves (yet), Tbolt persuaded two not to climb the 164 ft up the ladder inside the mill chimney - one of the young lads was about 70 ft up the chimney at the time.

Rylands Mill has gone under a number of names over the year being Pagefield Mill and Gildow Works and now sits in development hell.

Built in 1866, this Grade II listed building operated as one of Lancashire's many cotton mills and in 1985 the building was taken over by Wigan Technical College, closing in 2007.

A recent fire, leaves the upper floor open to the elements, but on a day like we had its rather photogenic.

I rather like this place, but access is far, far too easy and a child is going to get killed or a best seriously injured.

St Johns Road, Huddersfield - January 2015

Whilst pottering around the old Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Kirklees College a chance bump into a group of fellow photographers tipped us off on a roll through pigeon shit in the rain into this derelict industrial site on the road out of Huddersfield.

Tbolt and myself pulled up for a wander around this death trap of building to round our day off in Yorkshire. Sadly a schoolboy error meant we didn't see as much of the building as we could have, as elderly gentlemen we forgot the full instructions from the kindly photographers until we set off home in the car.
