The Mission, Bolton - July 2016

Following a top tip off from Tbolt, Zer081 and myself popped in for a little nosey.

I could find little or no information on the Mission Hall or Christian Mission, apart from some over priced photos from the 1950s available to buy from the Bolton News.

Tbolt didn't rate this place, but I rather liked it for what it is, going to give it a possible controversial 5/10.

Just wish I could find some history, even just a little bit.

St Joseph's Seminary, Upholland - March 2016

I'm not an early morning person and this was a very early morning meeting with Lavino, Tbolt and Blacksnake - very early cannot be stated enough.

WP_20160327_08_46_48_Raw

To recap, I have never had much luck at this old seminary and our guide Lavino was a godsend, despite my serious misgivings the visit was uneventful in all the right ways.

This former Roman Catholic seminary opened in 1883 and is now a vast empty Grade II Listed building rapidly falling into major disrepair following its closure final closure in 1991.

So here are my snaps including homage to all the shite HDR shots I have longingly stared at for years as I itched to have a potter around this place.

St Mary's Chapel, Lead, Yorkshire - November 2015

On my ongoing search for wonderful village churches we stumble into Yorkshire for a most excellent bit of roadside spotting, well I say roadside - this one is in the middle of a field.

St Mary's Chapel is Grade II listed and dates back to the 14th century, thought to be a chapel for a long gone medieval manor house, the chapel that remains is only 18 feet in length.

Restored between 1931 and 1934, the chapel is now maintained by the Churches Conservation Trust.

St Thomas' Church, Saddleworth - May 2015

If your not into your churches then scroll on, if you are I now have a few on my blog so just type in church in my little search box thing.

Anyway another off the radar church, closed and being looked after by a heritage group. Sadly Saddleworth is famous for all the wrong reasons and to be honest deserves to be explored.

This out of eye sight church was built in 1765 and closed in 1970. These days it is more known as a film and TV location for many productions, recent filming includes Jamaica Inn, Survivors and A Monster Calls.

St Helens Church, Biscathorpe - April 2015

More churches I can hear you shout, so down to Lincolnshire we go for an abandoned church.

I was in the area and this little gem is just round the corner from RAF Stenigot, you just have to find it, tucked away in the trees of a farmers field out of eyes sight.

This Grade II Gothic style church was built in 1847 and seems to have closed its doors to worship around 1970.

The grass looks trimmed, but sadly the church itself has fallen into disrepair and does show signs of minor vandalism and general slow decay.

Sadly locked these days, a view from a broken window.
