Spa Mill, Bolton - March 2015

I don't normally do stuff on my doorstep and I try to avoid solo explores, but with no one playing out and April Showers piling in a few days early this local mooch was the order of the day - plus I could go for a brew at Tin Dog's after.

With demolition passed back in 2012,  this and the adjoining building are hanging on rather well compared with most I come across.

Offices one side of the yard, full of junk and er, well.....











The other side of the yard in the main mill building is more interesting, once the home of upholsterers A&H Sharples.





 













 

You know what, a bloody good relaxed mooch, I'd even go back - 8/10.

Dyson Refractories, Sheffield - March 2015

Not a report, more of a don't bother.

Pretty much sealed tight, anything not secure is in the state of being semi demolished with not a lot to see.

Phlegm and Star Wars, Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield - March 2015

After a disappointing trip over to Sheffield, something caught my eye for a split second and I got Urban Spaceman to spin the car round and park up at Owlerton Stadium.

A quick scramble over the to the waste ground into the shell of an old building and well wonderful stuff for the eyes.

Oh, you came for the Star Wars art, well here you go Han Solo and Boba Fett





I was on the minutes, in fact my total stay was about three minutes and no doubt will pop in again next time I'm passing, but other art was scattered around the place.







A little gem of a place just out of eyes sight.

Hartington Cheese Factory - March 2015

Cheese factory, I couldn't resist.

Back in the late 1990s I had a dream, a cheese dream. A friend and I wanted to be cheese magnets and we planned to open two cheese stalls on England's premier open market, Bury Market in Lancashire.

We found prime locations at either end of the market to maximize sales with our bespoke cheese emporiums. We brain stormed for a name, culminating after weeks (minutes) of deliberation with a simply inspired name to reflect our positioning in the market - Chris and Bob's Cheesy Ends.

Sadly our dreams crumbled and we never became big cheeses.

Anyway cheese factory, yes ! Time to get Team Weasel back together - myself, ZerO81 and the one only known as the Judderman.

Destination Derbyshire, Hartington Creamery home of the King's Stilton, named after King George V who had awarded a Royal Warrant to the factory for the manufacture of  Blue Stilton - sadly the factory closed in 2009 when the then owner Dairy Crest moved production to another Stilton production centre in Leicestershire and surprise surprise the building now sits in development hell.





So in we go....



and it has vast dark white walled rooms of nothingness

 

one has a hole in the roof.



then its white walled corridors and more corridors - I can see I'm not really selling the place very well, but to be honest it has been pretty much been stripped back to white walls through out.

It was time to go, as that was about that.

6/10, I'm not sure why but I rather enjoyed this place for some odd reason.

- oh,  the Chis and Bob's Cheesy Ends story is true.

Stanley Tools, Sheffield - March 2015

Over the hills to Sheffield once more, visited with Urban Spaceman on a long overdue meet up.

The Stanley Tools factory opened in 1937 and closed in 2008, in recent years has been used for as a zombie compound.





Sadly most of the place has been stripped out and filled with tyres and barricades for zombie and airsoft battles, very little of  the Stanley history remains.



Thankfully it has a few bits of graffiti to catch the eye











And that was that, a little meh, despite the initial wonderful derp exterior.

Sadly a 3/10 from me.
