Northern Quarter Street Art, Manchester - November 2015

In days gone by I used to trawl the back streets of Manchester's city centre looking for street art and graffiti, sadly Manchester is slowly becoming sanitized and so I gave up the hobby a while ago.

But sometimes you go back, so I had a quick wander around the Northern Quarter and Stevenson Square - to walk off a slight hangover from a corporate bash the night before (not my scene, but I was dragged there kicking and screaming - and the wine was flowing).

And then onto the Tib Street junction for a bit of Freddy Krueger

And that was that, hangover walked off.

Stand Athletic Football Club - December 2015

The former home ground of Stand Athletic FC and Haslingden FC, sits rotting in development hell overrun with rabbits.

IMGP3859_DxO

Visited with Tbolt and ZerO81 whom both found the whole place underwhelming, taking the piss out of my wish to visit the place for pretty much of the day.

Not much to see, but I rather liked this place for some odd reason, so 6/10 which is a bit odd considering I don't even watch or like football.

Murphys Machinery, Menston - November 2015

Visited on a rather wet and windy November day by myself, Tbolt, Judderman and the hobbit like one only known as ZerO81.

IMGP3756_DxO

I've seen rather a lot of jolly good photos over the years from this place, sadly you will be very disappointed by mine.

Visited just in the nick of time by the looks of the floors on the way in, saying that the place has been closed since 2002 and has stood empty unused except for the occasional visit by photographers.

The place has seen better days and sadly lots of its charm has sadly been stolen of late.

Overall a bit crap, but thankfully the chippy down the road made up it, fish and chips all round was the order of the day and most excellent indeed.

4/10

Attercliffe Tram Shed, Sheffield - November 2015

A rather wet (extremely wet) trip to Sheffield with Tbolt, with a hop into Low Bradfield and ultimately Cannon Brewery.

Second on our list for the day was Attercliffe Tram Shed, not the most exciting of places unless your into your street art and graffiti. Now I am into paint but Tbolt had announced en-route has has no interest, at all, what so ever.

"Sir you have been to the wrong city !" I replied and the challenge was on to convert him from seeing a derelict brick shit hole as an urban art gallery.

I think the Mortal Combat art may have converted him.

And on we moved to other sites around the city.

Soviet Aircraft Graveyard, Riga, Latvia - October 2015

If your ever kicking your feet at Riga Airport take the 5 minute walk to Riga Aviation Museum.

I personally wouldn't really call it a museum, more of a hording of Soviet era helicopters and aircraft cluttering a strip of land at the side of the airport car park behind a rather bland fence.

Hit the (the rather loud) buzzer on the gate and someone will let you in, pay the chap the 7 Euros and have a wander round this cluttered collection of wonderful Soviet Cold War relics of yesteryear.

At times it feels a bit like a junk yard, but this is part of its appeal, with guys banging away on bits of machinery. Its looks at first glance uncurated and has little pieces of string hang round some of the exhibits, as a barrier. I suspect that if the late Fred Dibnah ran a museum, it might be a little like this place.

Now top tip for Latvia, show an interest and ask - you may get and often do, such as a look inside this troop carrier.

Lluesty Hospital, Holywell - November 2015

Originally built as a workhouse in the 1830s by the Holywell Poor Law Union, this North Wales hospital closed in 2008 and despite being a Grade II listed building it sits slowly rotting await in housing development hell. It is not known if Derek Acorah has visited this site.

Team Weasel reunited for a wet day out in North Wales, being Judderman, ZerO81 and my good self.

All the buildings on site are in a shocking state and every corner you turn you find signs of the local fire bugs having attempted to set fire to the place, pity the neighbours and the petrol station opposite.
