Bolton from the air, again - June 2015

A last minute diversion minutes before preparing to land at Barton gives me rather fittingly photos of my home town, on what was my final trip out.

I've pottered over Bolton many times, hit the search button if you fancy a gander.

Anyway on with the final bunch with a shot of Bolton Parish Church and a curving view of Bradshawgate, Bolton

Bolton Parish Church, Bolton

The local council flog postcards of this next view or something very similar and as a kid at school we had to do a project on Bolton - mine from memory consisted mostly of postcards of Bolton Town Hall and Le Mans Crescent.

Bolton Town Centre, from above

Interesting view this one, I suspect most people don't realise the Bolton Town Hall contains a internal court yard.

Bolton Market Place with its half built crane for the construction of the new cinema in the town centre - which is strange as I know of a least 4 in the town centre that got demolished, two relatively recently. Sadly Bolton Council is run by.......

Anyway they seemed to be doing a bit of a returf down the road at the Reebok, sorry Macron Stadium, I still can't get my head round the change of name. Anyway lets hope Bolton Wanderers have a better season than the last few shockers.

The massive Horwich Loco Works, soon to be demolished.....

So I'm going to finish with a shot of Rivington Pike, a bit deceiving this picture - as all would know that have walked up it.

End of an era, thanks Tiger.

My Friends Are Electric - Power from the sky

Whizzing round the sky, we see the towers of power, the wind turbines, the cooling towers which from the sky look bloody amazing.

Part of an ongoing obsession I afraid to say, so here is a few of my latest snaps - in no order from all around the United Kingdom

Bolton from the air, again - July 2013

Time to catch up with more aerial shots from around Bolton, following the last selection from January

Once again all pictures taken by myself, this time early July 2013 on a couple of trips out to other places.

This first picture ended up in our local newspaper, big mistake on my part with a lack of the story printed and parts of the article simply made up and the promises of a mention of the pilots charity webpage simply broken.

Bottom line, Saturday afternoon in Bolton Town Centre and the place is dead.

Bolton Town Hall

This next shot of Bolton, again showing Bolton Town Hall and was taken the weekend after, its a Sunday shot.

 Bolton Town Hall

Newport Street, Bolton, showing the Bolton Gateway Bridge in all its "glory" - on the bottom right hand side is the proposed area for the new Bolton transport hub or as some would call it a bus station or possibly escape.

The A666. St Peters Way, going under Bradford Street, you can see Shifnal Street in this shot, strangely if you use the words Shifnal Street, Bolton on any blog or photo it gets extra views due to Shifnal Street historically being the red light district of Bolton - this is pretty much not the case these days as the local police have cleaned up the area.

Arrrrrrr, the Jumbles Reservoir, when I was a school lad they used to make run round this in the snow, ice and Lancashire's torrential rain as part of a torture regime codenamed cross country - bastards !!

Over to Harwood, bordering Breightmet, off Stitch Mi Lane is the new school St Catherine's Academy which replaced the now demolished Withins School or as previously known County Grammar School.

Winter in the Lake District - from the air

The first weekend of December 2012, the first real blast of the winter weather and a flight thru the Lake District of England.

 CTSW Microlight over Cumbria

Two planes, both CSTW Microlights, for a bit of gentle cat and mouse over the valleys and mountains of the likes of Eskdale and Borrowdale.

 Flight Design CTSW Microlight

In no particular order, but starting with us following the "mouse" up the Eskdale Valley towards the Hardnott Pass

Eskdale

With the early winter snow on the mountains, the Lake District really was a sight for sore eyes after being stuck in the office all week.
