Phlegm and Star Wars, Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield - March 2015

After a disappointing trip over to Sheffield, something caught my eye for a split second and I got Urban Spaceman to spin the car round and park up at Owlerton Stadium.

A quick scramble over the to the waste ground into the shell of an old building and well wonderful stuff for the eyes.

Oh, you came for the Star Wars art, well here you go Han Solo and Boba Fett

I was on the minutes, in fact my total stay was about three minutes and no doubt will pop in again next time I'm passing, but other art was scattered around the place.

A little gem of a place just out of eyes sight.

Eldon Grove, Liverpool - July 2014

Urban Spaceman's call this one, with a txt earlier in the week.

Eldon Grove tenements, Liverpool - built in 1912 and totally fucked by 2014, Grade II listed, full of discarded needles and man poo.

Voices, we could hear voices, the mumblings, just below the level of being able to decipher the ramblings. Homeless ? druggies ? We just avoided that area of the block.

Darkened stairwells beckoned us in...

Up top the place is stripped out, burnt out and in places just waiting to collapse in on its self, but still Eldon Grove still holds its charms.

7/10 - nice derp.

Liverpool, we will be back and on a regular basis....

Hartford Mill, Oldham - March 2014

We went to Oldham.

Oldham is a bit like Bolton, but a little more shit.

As you drive up the motorway towards the wonderful town of Oldham the vast Hartford Mill comes into view and slowly towers the outskirts of the town with its huge chimney.

Built in 1907 and abandoned 1992, this Grade II listed building has sadly been approved for demolition as it overshadows new housing developments in the area.

In we walked, as you do, an empty shell of a building yet full of charm.

Time is running out for this old Hartford Mill, the much promised demolition looms (it has for years to be honest but the end is now nigh) so be quick if your planning to go - it is worth it just for the views up top of Manchester and the Pennine Hills alone.

Baron Hill Estate, Beaumaris

Down in the jungle where nobody goes.
There's a great big elephant washing his clothes.
With a rub-a-dub here and a rub-a-rub there.
That's the way he washes his clothes.
A tiddley- I-Tie A boogey woogey woogey A tiddley- I-Tiea boogey woogey wooge.
That's the way he washes his clothes.

Well that's how the song goes and as explores go this was fun, Boys Own stuff - mud, brambles, nettles, more mud, climbing over fallen trees blocking our path, more mud.

This was the jungle of, errrr Wales.

Originally built in 1618, reconstructed 1776, used as a billet for Polish soldiers during World War 2 who "accidently" set fire to the building.

The property is now a shell slowly being enveloped  by the plant life - despite being cut back in recent years the triffids are rapidly taking over !!!

It was a picture of the above lodge house that sparked my interest in this place, it sits on one of the old driveway bridges on route to the house. However the pictures I'd seen showed a clear path, our route was overgrown and full of fallen trees which needed climbing over to continue our journey.

Goodbye Steely Magnesite in Hartlepool

Well sad news, whilst after competing in the Round Britain Microlight Rally (more on that later) I must break the sad news that an old exploring site has the demo boys in.

Whilst on route to the Orkney Islands from Brighton I managed to snap these pics from the plane.

That hole on the left looked bloody deep I should add.

The Chimney is to be dropped 29th July 2012.

Kearns of Waterfoot Ltd

Summer is here and what better than a drive in the sun with my round headed friend Urban Spaceman.

Waterfoot, a little village in a nice bit of Lancashire countryside valleys with a dirty half demolished,  run down, tumble down mill - although it has to be said in talking to the locals they seemed upbeat that someone might one day start the long promised conversion into (you guessed it) apartments and housing.

We didn't want to be seen climbing over/under fences in full view of the locals - so the lovely people of Waterfoot directed us to a footpath so we could simply wander into the site for a gander.

"did you go in?" you ask, we popped our head in one building and to be honest nothing to see other that a light bulb and rather saggy wet floors with a big drop below. We spotted the way into the other building and couldn't be bothered by this time as the moment had gone (bit of a first - and it was just a sloppy effort by the contractor with a few stones and a bit of plyboard).

So once again one to miss and save your petrol.
