Hollinshead Hall Holy Well, Belmont - July 2016

You like to think you know your local area, so it was a surprise when Bovine posted a few photos of this place.

Hollinshead Hall was a manor house situated between Belmont Village and Tockholes, built in 1776 the property fell into disrepair in the late 1900's and was demolished by Liverpool Corporation Waterworks following purchase of the surrounding land area.

Very little remains of the old house, apart from the Holy Well, a natural spring housed in small building with a reputation of being haunted.

A pleasant wander in the rather damp summer air brought us to a clearing in the woods.

A seldom seen mill, Bolton - July 2016

I do like a good mill, I do like a good permission visit, I was invited by Tbolt to join a student group mooch. It was rather good.

a seldom seen mill

A good potter was had by all around this old cotton and carpet weaving mill. Part working, part closed, we stuck to the closed bits.

Pinner Quarry, Crawshawbooth - August 2015

Not sure of the directions to this place, middle of a field in Lancashire, visited with Tbolt and our guide for the day Urban Caveman - the latter being some kind of human mole with no feeling of pain.

With an entrance marked by a dead fox, the vile smell of the maggot infested rotting beast lingered in the darkened passages.

No doubt this was total death trap of a place, but non the less we entered deeper into the darkness and pottered around a labyrinth of abandoned man made caves in search of an old crane.

The crane, the crane !!

Then we did some wire wool spinning, as you do and we set fire to our scalps and enjoyed the smell of burning wire, hair and flesh - it smelt better than the putrid fox.

All good fun and we left for another destination, again chosen by Urban Spaceman - sadly the next explore will never be mentioned or muttered or ever written about outside Team Armadillo, EVER.

RAF Driffield - July 2015

In the final days of Team Weasel we decided to cast our net deeper into Yorkshire, so myself Judderman and the intrepid explorer ZerO81 set off into the mythical areas of North Yorkshire never ventured  - passing hamlets with wonderful names such as Bugthorpe and Wetwang.

RAF Driffield opened in 1918, originally called RAF Eastburn, the RAF based closed in 1977 and was then turned over to the British Army for driver training and renamed Alamein Barracks. In 1992 the RAF again took over the site until closing as a base in 1996. Some areas of the site do however remain active to this day.

RAF Driffield

Time for a mooch, in major derp. It should be noted that if the local vandals put as much effort into graffiti as they have in smashing up the place they might have produced some decent art - but they sadly haven't.

So if you like smashed up bogs, shit graff, corridors this is the potter for you and its worth the mooch for the other bits on site.

 RAF Driffield

All in all not a bad potter, so I'm going to give it a 6/10 and leave you with this little gem as found in the gym of this derelict airbase

Prospect Mill, Bradford - October 2013

As the rain lashed down in not so sunny Lancashire we dashed over the border to not as damp Yorkshire for a taste of Bradford Millage.

With Tin Dog at the wheel we arrived on site (Urban Spaceman being grounded and currently sentenced to hard labour with an industrial sander) to admire this derelict Grade II listed building which dates back to 1849.

Formally a textile mill, the property had then been subdivided into multi tenure business units in later years, before falling into dereliction and some parts sadly falling into the hands of the local fire bugs.

With the rain starting to tumble down the intrepid explorers took shelter inside the mill, be rude not to and given a big open door invited us in shelter from the Autumnal weather shelter was taken not a moment too soon.

With with the floor good to soggy in parts we wandered a good part of the complex within, a few doors blocked and sadly it would seem we missed a few areas I'd been wanting to capture, maybe a return visit may be needed when time is on our side.

Sadly this place was another blight on the landscape screaming to out be saved, once again making a mockery on the UK's heritage preservation.

More Yorkshire millage to come as the area sports scores of these rotting buildings, such as previously visited Midland Mills in Bradford.
