DYL Motor Group, Halifax - January 2016

Sometimes you follow crowd, I think none of us really had high hopes for this place, but you do it. Nothing ventured and all that. The chap the suggested the place couldn't even be arsed to turn up...

So welcome to Happy Valley or to be more specific the now derelict buildings of DYL Motor Group, of Halifax as visited by Judderman, Tbolt, Luigi and my good self one rather damp January morning.

Derp 2/10 - but whilst in the area we went on the search of what Hillary Briss would call "special stuff"

Hipperholme Brickworks - October 2012

A truly wild and wet autumnal day in West Yorkshire, visited with Urban Spaceman with his SatNav set to Wuthering Heights Mode, just one setting down from car destruction mode.

A public footpath from the road runs directly thru this old brick factory, so no excuses on this one as its the ultimate easy in.

The once home of the Allen and Son Brickworks from 1905 until 1960s, although the factory does pre-date this.

Later known as G.R. Stein's Brickworks and then later the works was used by a plastics company as a manufacturing base until its final closure.

I spotted this place in a few reports and to be honest the place does seem to have gone down hill over the last year or so.

 

 

 

 

 



Quite a large site, with lots of outbuildings, many in a total state of disrepair and smashed to bits by the vandals, some buildings fire damaged and a few in a state of collapse.

 



 

On the upside the site has been turned into massive art gallery by graffiti artists.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 





 

It's worth exploring every nook and cranny if you have the time to make the effort, as little gems are hidden out of clear view and the first looks of this sprawling "dump" are deceptive.

Wilkinsons of Elland - Blackley Brickworks

September 2011

You can see this place as you drive down the M62 motorway.

On my journey up to Halifax the weekend before I spotted this place as I pulled off the motorway, a brief meet with the Judderman the week before and I had this one on my list, after a mooch ont'tinernet I soon found this is an old favorite of many an explorer and is totally buggered.

The challenge was to make this one look bloody good and spark Urban Spaceman into stop messing about with his motorbike in his shed.

Blackley Fire Clay Works, Wilkinson's Brickworks, Blackley. The chimney at the works was built in 1894 and is a local landmark, the factory itself dates back to about 1883, the factory closed in 1985.

I set off a little concerned after reading a recent newspaper article stating the owners had been reviewing security at the site, it was obviously not on any kind of priority list, given the state of the place and the lack of security and on site parking.
