Manchester Northern Quarter - September 2014

Not been to Manchester in what seems like ages, so a welcome return to the Manchester Northern Quarter.

Despite the increasing rapid sanitisation of Manchester a gentle walk around the Northern Quarter still holds a mystical charm for me with memories of my early morning walks to work back in 1987.

Scuttling thru the back streets looking for artwork off I go down one really shitty back street, this just opens questions....  Plaster casts of dogs ? porn? or perhaps the next Lassie ? what kind of porn? the mind does boggle or mine does a little bit.

Stevenson Square, Manchester - December 2013

As the throngs of Christmas shoppers descend on Manchester, a wander round the back streets of Manchester with a return visit to the Northern Quarter and an update on the Outhouse Project and the other gems in the surrounding streets.

With rather urbex'ee carparking (it was cheap) we parked in the arches under the train lines into Manchester Victoria, had it not been so busy it would have been ripe for a mooch.

A short walk with the hidden tunnels of the Manchester Cathedral  Steps, we headed for the Northern Quarter.

and finally on to the Outhouse Project.

All this was sadly a little wasted on the Tin Dog, who had joined me for a potter round the back streets of Manchester, he doesn't "get it", adding that it wasn't bad and better than tagging in that a least some thought goes into street art. But he was nonplussed with his eyes rolling in their sockets with boredom.

In a very strange twist we then ended up at Proper Tea, for a cup of errrr tea - I can recommend this place highly and the Beijing Breakfast Tea is to die for.

Enough of the poncy tea drinking, until next time.........

Stevenson Square, Manchester - July 2013

A wander to Stevenson Square, Manchester to view the Manchester Outhouse Project again to see the new art.

Sadly the Summer weather came to an end and to put it simply, I was a drowned rat walking like the Tin Man as walked thru Ancoats.

Ancoats

At this point I should add that all the pictures on this entry are basically salvaged. Shooting with my Pentax K20D in RAW I'd never had had any issues until this weekend - photos taken, photos lost - the K20D would seem to have a firmware issue and I'd never updated the firmware - saying that I've been using the camera for over 12 months without issue.

After wasting hours trying to recover the photos with various recovery software I found Stellar Photo Recovery would pull them back in PEF, so I registered the software and sadly the newer version didn't find the missing photo files as PEF but it would pull the files back in a NEF files format, my DXO software wouldn't open the files unless I upgraded to Elite DXO. Thankfully Adobe have a file converter that converted the NEF files to DNG, which I could then open - but not as RAW files. So here we go, whats left of the photos.

So on with the new paint

Stevenson Square, Manchester, December 2012

Just in time for my halfhearted Christmas shopping trip to Manchester I popped along to my regular haunt of Stevenson Square for an update on the Outhouse Project.

Stevenson Square, Manchester - June 2012

Feet back on the ground for a few weeks, the plan was a trip to Whittingham Asylum but Urban Spaceman was grounded again - this time Mrs Spaceman had him decorating in his pink handcuffs.

Being that asylums are lonely places on your own, a trip into Manchester seemed like a jolly good idea.

Off to see the ever changing Outhouse Project in Stevenson Square.
