St John the Evangelist's Church, Crawshawbooth - December 2015

Opening in 1892 this rather large church closed in 2012 following a fall in the congregation and a series of lead thefts which left an estimated repair bill of £500,000. The church sits covered in a thick yellow/orange dust with roof damage slowly eating away at this Grade II listed building.

The building was listed on The Victorian Society Top 10 Endangered List  in 2013 and is also listed by English Heritage as At Risk with a condition of Very Bad.

Visited with ZerO81 and Judderman, Tbolt having wandered in the day before. This wonderful church had been on our radar for a while and it would seem to be now firmly placed on the tourist trail.

Its a very long and very narrow walk up the to the bell tower, one your not going to forget in a hurry as when do finally get up to the top there is very little to see other than a roof in a shocking state of repair, lots of pigeon shit and then you have to come down again.

So if an extremely dusty, darkened church is your thing then its a 9/10 otherwise your looking at a 5 or possibly a 4.

Merry Christmas folks, see you all in the New Year.

Walkleys Clog Factory, Mytholmroyd - August 2015

Another potter over the border into Yorkshire, visited with LuigiDawn, Judderman and the one only known as Evilnoodle.

Walkleys Clogs had been one of a number of companies producing clogs from this mill for over 120 years and then the mill was reinvented as factory outlet with craft centre and soft play areas. The mill became a very popular tourist attraction, sadly a bit to popular for the locals - with more than half a million visitors a year the pressure on the local road system was unsustainable and the council demanded the company pay for a new road network.

Welcome to Walkleys Clogs !

This place has had the usual vandals in but still retains "odd" bits and bobs.

Goodbye Steely Magnesite in Hartlepool

Well sad news, whilst after competing in the Round Britain Microlight Rally (more on that later) I must break the sad news that an old exploring site has the demo boys in.

Whilst on route to the Orkney Islands from Brighton I managed to snap these pics from the plane.

That hole on the left looked bloody deep I should add.

The Chimney is to be dropped 29th July 2012.

Kearns of Waterfoot Ltd

Summer is here and what better than a drive in the sun with my round headed friend Urban Spaceman.

Waterfoot, a little village in a nice bit of Lancashire countryside valleys with a dirty half demolished,  run down, tumble down mill - although it has to be said in talking to the locals they seemed upbeat that someone might one day start the long promised conversion into (you guessed it) apartments and housing.

We didn't want to be seen climbing over/under fences in full view of the locals - so the lovely people of Waterfoot directed us to a footpath so we could simply wander into the site for a gander.

Coming soon-ish

"did you go in?" you ask, we popped our head in one building and to be honest nothing to see other that a light bulb and rather saggy wet floors with a big drop below. We spotted the way into the other building and couldn't be bothered by this time as the moment had gone (bit of a first - and it was just a sloppy effort by the contractor with a few stones and a bit of plyboard).

So once again one to miss and save your petrol.
