Highways Department, Johnstown, Carmarthen - June 2017

We spotted this place on the side of a busy main road in Wales. After a frustrating day we popped our heads in.

Looked like an old school which had been later used by the Highways Department for offices. Not much to say about the place to be honest. It had potential from the road side but ultimately crap, thrashed to within an inch of its life.

Visited by Snapt and Tbolt between rain showers.

Lights on, no one at home

Given that Wales is obviously a country of milk and honey we did find it a little strange that the lights where left on despite the building being "alfresco" and looking empty for years.

Posted to save you the time and effort 2/10

Huncoat Power Station - August 2015

An overdue return to the guilty pleasure that is Huncoat Power Station.

Visited with with Tbolt and two non exploring photography students, I wasn't going to post these pics, but why the hell not.

Let us have a sniff around

I think we need to round up a team for some wool spinning again, we walked from our last session at Huncoat with cracking shots, but that was two years ago.....

Low Bradfield Water Works - July 2015

Popped into this little gem of a place with ZerO81 on our route of Sheffield.

A water purification plant built in 1913, closing in 1995. Sitting in the village of Low Bradfield it has become a little hub for graffiti artists from around the area over the years.

So in we go, I would have loved a place like this to play in as a kid.

All in all rather pleasing on the eye in most parts, the kind of place you can put your feet up and have an exploring picnic - nothing is going to kill you.  A rather respectable 6/10, points only deducted due to size (as size does matter).

Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale - June 2015

Visited with Tbolt, ZerO81 and the fashionable young whippet known only as The Underdog.

Opening in 1877 as a workhouse known as Dearnley with the addition of an infirmary in 1902, Birch Hill became a hospital in 1948 and finally closed in January 2013.

With the vast majority of the buildings now demolished, the last part of the building including its clock tower sits surrounded by a residential building site.

Time for a mooch, this place is all about the clock tower.

Anyway, a nice simple potter - 9/10 (just for the clock tower).

Revisit to Hartford Mill, Oldham - May 2015

With further promises of imminent demolition, Judderman and myself decided to have one last look at Hartford Mill, a monster of mills that is a local landmark or blot on the landscape depending on how you view it.

Standing empty for years, I last popped into this shell of a Grade II listed building back in March 2014.

I had gone for this view, but sadly the grey sky let us down sadly.

Time for a new mooch in the final days (saying that, the threat of demolition has been hanging over the place for years).

So we pottered in, as you do.
